Finding joy in giving back to those in need

Chiropractor St James Best Christmas Ever

Best Christmas Ever Fundraiser

While Christmas is a time of celebration for many, it also can be a difficult day for those who are hurting financially. Through the month of November, we took nominations of families who have fallen on hard times through no fault of their own. Friends or acquaintances of these families could nominate them through our website. At the end of the month, we pooled all the nominations and picked one family to make the best Christmas ever for.

A Giving Tree

For the month of December, we put up a giving tree in the office, complete with the story of the family and what they have been going through. This year, we are donating to a single mother with two children. One day the father went to work and never came home. The mom had immigrated to this country several years ago and has no family around, so it has been tough with no family or financial support.

How Patients Can Help

The tree is adorned with tags of what that family needs. Whoever nominated the family determines for us what those needs are. Patients can come in and grab a tag of whatever they want to get for the family. It could be a gift card or a toy. The patient then purchases the item and puts it under the tree.

Once all gifts have been purchased, we will have a big wrapping party a couple of days before Christmas. A day or two before Christmas we drop off the gifts at their house. The family has no idea we’re doing this, so it’s a complete surprise. We show up at their house and make it the best Christmas that they ever had!

Other businesses in the area also participate in the Best Christmas Ever fundraiser. They each choose a different family. This is the second year that Westwood Family Chiropractic has participated. Last year we were able to donate over $1,200 in gift cards as well as Jets tickets, hotel stays, laptops, slippers for the kids, and more.
